2020 was a year full of “firsts” that no one saw coming when 2019 ended. All types of gathering have ceased, and celebrations for the Philippine Heritage Month that is annually held in June have moved virtually. That is, except for a socially distanced vehicle train organized by the Edmonton Philippine International Centre Initiative (EPIC) and participated by many Filipino organizations.
Dubbed as #PHMvehicletrain, the event was graced by Consul-General Zaldy Patron, Honorable MLA Kaycee Madu of the Edmonton South-West, MLA Rod Loyola of Edmonton Ellerslie, and MLA Christina Gray of Edmonton-Mill Woods.
Participants gleefully joined in the vehicle train with their balloons, Philippine flags and banners from Mill Woods Town Centre into the South Edmonton area, and also from the West Edmonton Callingwood Park into a loop around Weber Greens, Rosenthal, and The Hamptons.
The event was a success and heralded the many virtual celebrations of Filipino events in and around Edmonton.
